Sofia has collected numerous prizes through the years including MTNA, Schubert Club, Thursday Musical, Mary West Scholarship Competitions and Young Soloists of Costa Rica. Ms. Schutte has played in venues such as Carnegie Hall, Weill Recital Hall and played as soloist with the National Symphony Orchestra of Costa Rica, the Youth Symphony Orchestra of Costa Rica and the Symphony Orchestra of the University of Costa Rica.
Sofia started her violin studies at the age of 5 at the Emil Friedman School and Conservatory with Ivan Perez. When moving with her family to San Jose, Costa Rica she continued her studies at the National Institute of Music and the Pre-College Division of the University of Costa Rica School of Music with Caterina Tellini. At 16 years old, Sofia continued her violin studies in Minnesota at the Shattuck-St Mary’s School and her Bachelors Degree at the University of Minnesota with Sally O’Reilly, later continuing her Masters Degree at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music with Simon James. Sofia has been in the violin section of the National Symphony of Costa Rica, Heredia Symphony Orchestra and is now a Diversity Fellow with the Charleston Symphony.
