Indiana University Jacobs School of Music
Barton Sopata, current 3rd year student at Indiana University, is originally from Rome, GA and began trumpet studies with Ms. Kay Fairchild. Currently, he is a student at the Indiana University Jacobs School of music where he studies modern trumpet with Professor John Rommel and Baroque trumpet with Professor Kris Kwapis. While at IU, Barton has had the wonderful experience of playing principal in the orchestra, opera orchestra, and ballet orchestra on pieces such as Sibelius 2, the opera L'Eitoile, and The Nutcracker. Outside of school, Barton has been accepted into the semi final round for the National Trumpet competition his freshman and sophomore year; and was a semi finalist in the large ensemble division for the 2023 competition. Above all things in music, Barton has constantly been drawn to the community that music creates and the people he has had the opportunity to make music with.

In addition to his trumpet studies, Barton is also completing an outside field degree in Public Policy & Administration. When Barton is not playing trumpet, you can find him in the outdoors hiking, playing tennis or pickle ball, and cooking.
