Abi Middaugh attends the University of Michigan under Professor Amy Porter, and performs with the Symphony Band under Professor Michael Haithcock & the University Philharmonia Orchestra under Maestro Jayce Ogren at the School of Music, Theater, & Dance.
As an orchestral musician, Abi performed with the 2022 National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America on their European tour under Maestro Daniel Harding, with guest cellist Alisa Weilerstein. Abi also played principal flute of Interlochen Arts Camp's 2021 World Youth Symphony Orchestra, & has performed with the Eastern Michigan University Wind Symphony.
As a soloist, Abi has most recently won first prize in the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra Young Artist Competition, performing with A2SO in November of 2022. She also won first prize in the Washtenaw Community Concert Band Concerto Competition & North Dakota State University National Music Performance Competition.
Other mentors include Kelly Zimba (Toronto Symphony), Hannah Hammel (Detroit Symphony), Matthew Roitstein (St. Louis Symphony), David DiGiacobbe (College of New Jersey) & Kelly McDermott, her former teacher whom she studied with for 15 years.
