Violist Eleanor Hammersly is in her fourth year of undergraduate studies at the University of Texas at Austin, studying with Roger Myers. Her musical endeavors have led her to perform throughout the United States, South America, and Europe. Last summer, as a Young Artist of the Trentino Music Festival, Eleanor served as principal violist in Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro under the baton of Neil Goren, as well as with Atlanta Opera director Arthur Fagen in Die Zauberflöte. She has spent past summers at the Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival, Idyllwild Arts Festival, and the Boston University Tanglewood Institute. Growing up in the LA area, she studied with Josephine Moerschel and served as Assistant Principal Violist of the Colburn Youth Orchestra. Since then, she has performed with the UT Symphony and the Central Texas Philharmonic. As both a soloist and chamber musician, she has performed in masterclasses for Paul Cortese, Anton Nel, Matthew Zalkind, and the Miro, Calder, and Kronos Quartets. In the fall of 2021, her string quartet worked with composer Gabriela Lena Frank for a performance of her work Milagros during her residency. Ella is also a passionate environmentalist.
