Ella Askren, 21, was born and raised in Los Angeles and started the violin at the age of six. Under the tutelage of Fung Ho, she attended the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts, where she was appointed concertmaster as well as in the Olympia Youth Orchestra. She also acted as concertmaster for the 2020 Grammy Awards Show finale, sharing the stage with Joshua Bell and Lang Lang. Notable accolades include presenting the world premiere of Three Dances by Bruce Stark at the 2020 MTAC Convention, playing in masterclasses for Ray Chen, winning First Prize at the Two Cranes International Music Festival as soloist, and winning Grand Prize with the Komorebi Piano Trio, of which she was a founding member, at the California MTAC State Finals. Ella is an undergraduate at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where she studies with Simon James.
