Emily Johns is a second year Masters student at the University of Nevada-Reno studying with Natalie Higgins and has played horn for twelve years. Emily attended the UMKC Conservatory in Kansas City, MO where she received her Bachelor of Music in Horn Performance. She has played in masterclasses for Kateřina Javůrková, Charles “Skip” Snead, and Robert Ward. In August 2022, Emily was a semifinalist at the International Horn Competition of America. She currently is a member of the UNR Wind Ensemble and Orchestra. She also performs in the UNR Horn choir and Graduate Brass Quintet. Along with school, Emily subs with various orchestras in the Reno area. In the past, she has performed in groups such as the Reno Philharmonic Orchestra, Overland Park Symphony, the East Sierra Chamber Orchestra, and the Susanville Symphony. Emily’s past horn instructors include Martin Hackleman, Cody Jinkerson, and Scott Rybolt.
