Gabe Roethle, from Rockford, Illinois, studies violin with Wen-Lei Gu at Lawrence University. He has played the first movement of the Barber Violin Concerto with the Birch Creek Symphony Orchestra in 2019 and the first movement of Bartok's second Violin Concerto with the Lawrence University Symphony Orchestra in 2022. Gabe has been a member of the Lawrence University Symphony Orchestra since 2019 and has had the opportunity to play in the orchestras for Lawrence's production of Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro as well as Rockford Choral Union's production of Handel's Messiah. Gabe began violin lessons at the age of six with Mary Kuchenmeister at the Music Academy of Rockford and continued with Rachel Handlin in high school. Besides classical music, Gabe dabbles in jazz and improvisatory music, as well as participating in Lawrence University's Gamelan Cahaya Asri. Alongside musical pursuits, Gabe explores their passion for film at Lawrence University, taking special interest in the cinema of Shuji Terayama.
