Abbey Young is currently pursuing her doctorate in clarinet performance from the University of Texas at Austin, where she serves as Assistant Instructor of clarinet. Previous to this appointment, she was Teaching Assistant to Professor Jonathan Gunn for two years. During her time at the University of Texas, she has been awarded the Presser Graduate Music Award and a Rainwater Innovation Grant for American Music. She is president of the Pure Goodness Music Collective, a non-profit that provides musical opportunities to those who have experienced chronic homelessness in Austin. She has performed professionally with the Paragon Ragtime Orchestra and Density 512, a contemporary chamber orchestra. In 2019 and 2021, she was selected as a finalist for the United States West Point Band and the "Pershing's Own" Army Band, respectively. Abbey received a scholarship from the Digital Clarinet Academy in 2021 and worked as an administrative employee for the organization the following summer. She received her Bachelor of Music from Indiana University, where she studied with Howard Klug and received the Premier Young Artist Award.
