William Richards is a Junior percussionist at the Manhattan School of Music. He is a recipient of a Presidential Scholarship at MSM, and has performed as a timpanist and percussionist with all of MSM’s main ensembles. Prior to MSM, his accomplishments include being Principal Percussionist of the ILMEA Illinois All-State Honors Band and Orchestra Programs (2017, 2018, and 2019), Principal and Section Percussionist of the Interlochen World Youth Symphony Orchestra (2018 and 2019), Section Percussion in the Wheaton Municipal Band (2017 Season Including a performance at the Midwest Clinic), and Semi-Finalist at the Great Plains International Marimba Competition (2016). His teachers include Christopher Lamb, Duncan Patton, Kyle Zerna, She-e Wu, Michael Folker, James Ross, and Keith Aleo. He received the Interlochen Fine Arts Award (2018), Maddy Summer Artist Award (2019), and was the winner of the 2019 Percussive Arts Society/Remo Fred Hoey Memorial Scholarship. When not performing, Will enjoys making instruments, especially tambourines, woodworking, and playing chess.
