Born into a family of musicians, 22-year-old David Harmsworth has been honing his craft as a classical cellist since he first picked up the instrument 17 years ago. First taking lessons from his father, a former cellist in the Utah Symphony, David has since studied with cellists such as Jonathan Spitz, Emilio Colon, Stephen Balderston, Jesus Castro-Balbi, Desmond Hoebig, Michael Mermagen, and Adam Collins. He has additionally taken part in lessons and masterclasses with Matt Haimovitz, Amit Peled, Melissa Kraut, Sharon Robinson, David Requiro, and Brinton Averil-Smith. In recent memory, David has performed the Dvorak and Lalo Cello Concerti with multiple Montana orchestras, including the Billings and Great Falls symphonies. An adept chamber musician, David has been to the finals of the MTNA National Chamber Music Competition on two occasions as a member of the Missoula Piano Trio. In addition to Festival Hill, David has attended the summer music festivals at Brevard and Aspen. David is currently studying with Dr. Adam Collins at the University of Montana and is looking to graduate with a performance degree in the spring of 2023.
