Lucy Gelber is a sophomore at the Eastman School of Music. Originally from Atlanta, GA, she started playing violin at age 6 and switched to viola at 14, studying with Joli Wu throughout high school. She was principal violist of the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra from 2017 to 2019 under the direction of Stephen Mulligan. She sat principal at the GMEA All State Orchestra from 2015-2019 and was also a member of the Emory Youth Symphony Orchestra from 2015-2016. Lucy is an avid chamber musician and has attended several chamber programs and summer festivals, including Bowdoin and Green Mountain chamber music festivals, the McDuffie Center for Strings Labor Day festival, and the Franklin Pond Chamber Music program. She placed second in the 2019 and 2020 Franklin Pond Chamber Music competitions with her piano quintet Cincopation, and she performed in the 2020 Eastman Honors Chamber recital with the Andromeda Trio. Lucy has served as principal of the Eastman School Symphony Orchestra under Neil Varon since 2019. She is also a member of Eastman Collegium Musicum. She currently studies with Masumi Rostad.
