Announcing the publication of Festival Hill at Fifty

For the past two years Carl Cunningham, famed Houston performing arts critic and writer, has dedicated his time to writing the rich history of Festival Hill, from its humble beginnings to the international acclaim it enjoys today.

Originally a Summer Piano Festival with eleven students, the Round Top Music Festival has brought forth and inspired over these many years thousands of national and international musicians who have studied, taught, conducted and performed in the fields, on the porch, in the various classrooms, on the portable stage and now, as well, on Festival Hill’s Concert Hall stage.

Festival Hill at Fifty, The History Of Round Top Festival Institute, designed and published by Herring Design in Houston, is fully illustrated with historical photographs, drawings and timeline, and includes complete lists of faculty, alumni, repertoire, major donors, volunteers, artisans and staff.

This book details the 50-year journey from casual outdoor concerts to performances in what has been called "a jewel in Texas". It celebrates the people that have created this amazing place, and the people who have gone on from being students here to stars around the world.

The spectacular cloth-covered hard-bound book with dust jacket is 12 in. x 9 in., 374 pages, with over 500 color and black & white historic images that trace the amazing history of this one-of-a-kind institution! Stephen Starr, Design Director at Herring led the team that turned the aesthetic of the Institute into a stunning book. The cover design of the Festival's iconic lyre was drawn by Houston artist Andy Deerwater.
