Application and Auditions Guidelines

You should be born before December 31, 1995.

Accepted participants are expected to remain at Round Top for the full six-week period (June 2 – July 14, 2013) without absences. Your schedule should be planned accordingly. No leave of absence will be granted.

 Deadline is Monday February 18, 2013

Preliminary Auditions
All applicants have the choice to audition in person (booking is closed by now) or send a recorded audition (the remaining choice… see below)

1) In person auditions:  Fill out the Application Form (see auditions sites listing below) and pay the $70 fee as soon as possible (online or call 979-249-3129 ext 19.) Checks made to “The James Dick Foundation” mailed to Alain G. Declert P.O. Box 89, Round Top, TX 78954 are also accepted.
Applicants should email or call 979-250-3815 to schedule audition times and receive information about exact audition locations.  Auditions are recorded and do not exceed 15 minutes per applicant.
All auditions are submitted “blind” to the relevant faculty with the mention “live.”

Each instrument requires specific excerpts and solos (Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass, Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon, Horn, Trumpet, Trombone, Bass Trombone, Tuba, Percussion, Harp, Piano.)
Collaborative artist is optional for solos.
Although excerpts for English horn, E-flat clarinet, Bass Clarinet are not compulsory, they are highly recommended.

Two recommendations should be submitted later either by email (alaind@festivalhill.org)  or snail mail (Alain Declert, P.O. Box 89, Round Top, TX 78954-0089), but must be received in Round Top by February 25, 2013.

When you are ready to submit your recorded audition (mp3 format), upload it after recording all required excerpts and combining them on one track before February 18, 2013 at

You may still mail an audio compact disc including all required excerpts to: Alain G. Déclert, P.O. Box 89, Round Top, TX 78954. (post marked before or on February 18, 2013)

Note: Due to the volume of applicants, we are not able to offer feedback on in person and recorded auditions.

Placement Auditions

on Monday June 3, 2013 starting at 10:00 am after the orientation meeting.
Specific excerpts will be posted early May 2013.
