Grand Prize Winner of the 2018 New York International Percussion Competition, Will Hopkins is a sophomore percussionist at the Manhattan School of Music in New York City, where he studies with Christopher Lamb, Duncan Patton, She-e Wu, and Kyle Zerna. A native of Dallas, Texas, Will studied with Jon Lee of Southern Methodist University and served as Principal Timpanist with the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra while in high school. He has also served as Principal Timpanist with the International Lyric Academy in Viterbo, Italy, and has recently appeared with the New York Youth Symphony at Carnegie Hall, in addition to performing with multiple organizations in and around New York. He has performed under several notable conductors, including Leonard Slatkin, Jane Glover, and George Manahan. He has studied privately with Doug Howard, Daniel Druckman, and Emmanuel Séjourné, and has performed in masterclasses by Ed Stephan, Don Liuzzi, and Vadim Karpinos. Will spends his free time reading, drinking coffee, and playing chess.
