Flutist Jane Kim, age 21, was born in gwacheon, south Korea. She started learning the piano at age 6, and picked up the flute 4 years later. She attended Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School in Melbourne, Australia where she studied flute with Mardi McSullea and Jiyoung Lee. Jane is a prize winner of the Rochester Flute Association’s Emerging Artist Competition and was a finalist in the Eastern Connecticut Concerto Competition. She has recently won First Prize in the Chappaqua Symphony Young Artists Competition, and played the Jolivet flute concerto with the orchestra in May. She is currently a junior at Eastman School of Music where she studies with Bonita Boyd and Anne Harrow. At Eastman, she regularly performs with the Philharmonia and Wind Ensemble and this year she was runner-up of the school’s concerto competition.
