Karl first became acquainted with the cello during a school demonstration of all the orchestral instruments. That day he came home having decided that he wanted to play the instrument. He started under the tutelage of Metta Watts at the Temple Music Preparatory Division of the Boyer College of Music and Dance, while also taking piano under Vladimir Ivanov at the Nelly Berman School of Music. Throughout secondary school Karl studied cello extensively under the guidance of Derek Barnes, member of the Philadelphia Orchestra. Karl currently studies with Felix Wang at the Blair School of Music. Pursuing his penchant for orchestral repertoire, Karl has played principal with Temple Prep. Baroque Orchestra, Main Line Youth Orchestra, and Philadelphia Sinfonia, as well as placing in PMEA Districts, Regionals, All-States, and All-Eastern orchestras. Karl has played multiple chamber works at festivals such as the Philadelphia International Music Festival, Brancaleoni International Music Festival, Curtis Summerfest, and Vanderbilt Académie in France. His solo achievements include the Grand Prize for the 2016 Vivace Competition, Runner-up in the 2016 Tri-County Competition, Finalist for the PIM
