Nicolas Valencia was a five year member of the Houston Youth Symphony and teacher in the HYS CODA program, where he performed outreach concerts at charity events and for underprivileged inner city students and children. As a member of the HYS chamber program, he participated in benefit concerts and recitals at Rice University and around Houston, playing in masterclasses with university professors and professional musicians from around the nation. His accomplishments include the Judge’s Choice Outstanding Musician Award at Texas State Solo and Ensemble, the KISD Award of Excellence in Music, performances at the Meadowmount School For Strings, and an Outstanding Soloist Award at the Mark of Excellence National Orchestra Honors Competition. He currently studies with Dr. Susan Dubois at UNT.
He has studied both viola and chamber music with teachers including Kikuei Ikeda of the Tokyo String Quartet, Lawrence Wheeler, Paul Silverthorne, Patricia Mccarty at Meadowmount School, Helen Callus, Earl Carlyss of the Juilliard String Quartet, and the St Lawrence string quartet.
