Aidan Gettemy

Baylor University
Playing the cello has been an integral part of Aidan’s life since the age of seven. Growing up near Houston he was able to take advantage of the wonderful music education a large city has to offer; auditioning into the Houston Youth Symphony at age 10, participating in chamber orchestra and quartets with Virtuosi of Houston and enrolling several summers in AFA summer music festival. In addition to enrolling in public school orchestra in Katy, TX, Aidan auditioned into the TMEA Region 23 Orchestra and All-State Orchestras. During summers in High School, Aidan enriched his music experience by auditioning for summer festivals outside of Texas. He studied at Sewanee Summer Music festival in the summer of 2014, Madeleine Island Chamber Music in the summer of 2015 and 2017, and Domain Forget in Canada in the summer of 2016. In 2015 Aidan received the UIL Outstanding Solo Performer award, and in 2017 he received a KISD Student Excellence Award for Orchestra. In fall of 2017, Aidan enrolled in Baylor University, where he pursues a Bachelor’s degree in music for cello performance along with a secondary major in mathematics. Baylor awarded Aidan a Music Incentive Talent Scholarship, a Getterman Music Scholarship, and the President’s Gold Scholarship. Aidan is a section leader in the Baylor Symphony and an intern in the Waco Symphony cello section. Aidan has developed into a passionate chamber musician, collaborating with fellow students, performing in chamber music and solo recitals throughout the semester. In the summer of 2018, Aidan along with colleagues from the School of Music served as interns at the Metthow Valley Chamber Music Festival in Washington State. Aidan’s previous cello teachers include Dr. Brady Lanier (2008-2013), and Anthony Kitai (2013-2017). Aidan currently studies with Dr. Gary Hardie.
