A native of Texas, Sarah Konvalin is most passionate about performing contemporary works in a chamber and orchestral setting. She is currently studying with Michelle Baker at the Manhattan School of Music, where she regularly performs with the school’s Chamber Sinfonia, Symphony Orchestra, and Philharmonia. In New York, she has performed in such groups as the Montclair Orchestra and the Brooklyn Symphony. Previously, she studied at the University of North Texas, where she collaborated on many recording projects with the UNT Wind Symphony, and played in the UNT Symphony and Concert Orchestras, as well as the Sherman Symphony. She was a recipient of the Clyde Miller Horn Solo Scholarship Competition, and with the Manhattan Five Wind Quintet was a winner of the Lillian Fuchs Chamber Competition. She dedicates her time to projects like the brass quintet Subtle Cheetah with the St. Luke’s Chamber Orchestra Mentorship Program. This year she has played with the New Orch and had the opportunity to perform the horn obbligato part to Mahler’s 5th symphony with the MSM Chamber Sinfonia under George Manahan.
