Juan Cruz was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico and moved to Caguas when he was 5 years old. He started playing the violin at 9 years of age, taking private lessons for a year until he was accepted in the specialized school of music Antonio Paoli of Caguas, in which he studied until May of 2016, when he graduated with honors.
Starting college that August in the Conservatory of Music of San Juan, he studies the violin under Dr. Francisco Cabán, professional violinist in the Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra. Juan is currently in his junior year, and has been playing in the Conservatory Symphony Orchestra under Maestro Roselín Pabón for his entire bachelor's degree, playing such works as Beethoven's Symphonies no. 1 and 5, Tchaikovsky's Symphony no. 4, etc.
Since 2014, Juan has been first violin in the Puerto Rico Youth Symphony Orquestra under Maestro Carlos Ávila, occupying the position of Concertmaster since 2016. With this orchestra, he has played such works as Rachmaninov's Symphony no. 2, Ottorino Respighi's Pines of Rome, Mozart's Symphony no. 31 (Paris), and many Latin-American orchestral works. In 2018, he won first place in the Young Artist's Competition, receiving a brand-new instrument.
