Julia Castellanos
Jersey City, New Jersey
Based in Jersey City, New Jersey, violinist Julia Castellanos enjoys an active freelance career performing and teaching around the NYC tristate area. She has performed with many orchestras in the region, including the Hudson Valley Philharmonic, Bay Atlantic Symphony, and the Refugee Orchestra Project of NYC, with whom she recently performed at the General Assembly of the United Nations. Her current mentor and teacher is Mary Ann Mumm (former MET orchestra), and her past teachers include Pamela Hentges (National Symphony Orchestra), Michael Davis (Louisville Orchestra), and Keng-Yuen Tseng (Peabody Conservatory faculty).

Above all, Julia loves continuing to take lessons and learn about her craft. She has a passion for teaching beginning string players of all ages, and loves finding different ways of building that same enthusiasm in her students. In addition to teaching privately, she is currently employed as a teaching artist through the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra El Sistema Program in Newark, NJ.

When she’s not busy with her music, Julia is an avid baker of breads and sweets. She also enjoys bird watching, riding her bike, and improving her Spanish.
