A native of Iowa, Matt is currently a freelance oboist in the Philadelphia area and a graduate student at Temple University, where he studies with Peter Smith, Associate Principal Oboe of The Philadelphia Orchestra. Since moving to Philadelphia, Matt has performed with The Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia and the Princeton Symphony.

Prior to his time in Philadelphia, Matt completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Iowa where he studied with Dr. Andrew Parker, and also performed with Orchestra Iowa and the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Symphony.

Matt has performed as principal oboe in venues such as Schermerhorn Symphony Hall in Nashville, the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia, and Alice Tully Hall in New York. In 2015, Matt performed as soloist with the Temple Chamber Winds at The California Theatre in San Jose, as part of the World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles (WASBE) International Conference. Additionally, Matt attended the Round Top Festival Institute as an orchestra fellow in 2017.

Matt recently collaborated with Bcm&d Records on their album Wind Concerti, featuring soloists from the Philadelphia Orchestra, as well as with The Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia & Mendelssohn Choir on J.S. Bach’s St. Matthew Passion on the NAXOS label.
