Aaron Barrera was born in Edinburg, Texas on July 29, 1999. He began playing viola at the age of eleven, but was not given the opportunity to have a private instructor till the age of 15. He was instructed by Alba Madrid and concertmaster of the Valley Symphony Orchestra, Geoffrey Wong. Since then, Aaron has won many awards and positions throughout his high school career. Some awards include: principal violist for two years in the TMEA All-Region orchestra, TMEA All-State Philharmonic Orchestra section violist (first to make it in over a decade from the Rio Grande Valley), and TSSEC Outstanding Soloist. Currently, he is continuing his studies as a college freshman at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley majoring in music performance under the guidance of Dr. Joel Pagan. Aaron is a section violist of the Valley Symphony Orchestra, principal of the UTRGV Symphony Orchestra, and works as an instructional tutor for the Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District. In addition, Aaron is an Early College graduate who holds an Associate of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies which he earned at 17 years of age.
