Timothy Sutton began cello at age 11. He studied with a local Pittsburgh Cellist, Franklin Nino, for 5 years. Beginning his freshman year of high school, Timothy began studying with Elisa Kohanski, Principal Cellist of the Pittsburgh Ballet Orchestra. After two years with Elisa, Timothy began to study with Round Top alumna, Kathy Mellucci, Principal Cellist of the Pittsburgh Opera Orchestra. Timothy joined the Pittsburgh Youth Symphony in 2015 where he had frequent coachings and sectionals with Manfred Honeck, David Premo, and many other members of the Pittsburgh Symphony. He was appointed Principal Cellist of the Orchestra in the 2016-17 season. Timothy was a student at Eastern Music Festival for two years, studying with the Kennedy Center’s Principal Cellist, Amy Frost-Baumgarten, and Chicago-Based Cellist, Rebecca Zimmerman. Timothy has worked with many esteemed musicians throughout the years both in public masterclasses and in private study, including Bill Wolfram, Uli Speth, Julian Schwarz, Lynn Harrell, The Miro Quartet (UT Austin), and Larry Neumann of the Chicago Symphony. Timothy now studies with Professor Stephen Balderston at DePaul University in Chicago.
