Jason Aylward is a masters student at Central Michigan University, studying for degrees in trumpet with Neil Mueller, and orchestral conducting with José-Luis Maúrtua. He holds a bachelors degree in trumpet performance from Concordia College in Moorhead, MN, studying with Peter Knudsvig. Jason plays with the CMU Faculty Brass Quintet, and is an active freelance musician in the Michigan and Minnesota areas. He has performed with the Pierre Monteux Festival Orchestral, the Detroit Chamber Winds and brass ensembles at the Domaine Forget festival.

As a conductor, he currently serves as assistant conductor for the CMU Symphony Orchestra, and as conductor and artistic director for the Chippewa River Chamber Orchestra, and Vintage Strings. As a composer, he’s premiered works with the Fredericksburg Brass Festival, A-Stage Theatre in Minneapolis, and the CMU Symphony Orchestra. Jason is the winner of the 2016 CMU Orchestral Composition Competition with his composition "On the Shoulders of Running Water", and recently won a CMU's 2017 Choral Composition Competition with his work "Memory, Hither Come".
