Juan Enrique Alonso is currently in his first year of pursuing a Master of Music degree in tuba performance at the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music under the instruction of Professor Timothy Northcut. A native of San Luis Potosi, Mexico, Juan began his musical career as a vocalist before gravitating towards the tuba. He obtained a Bachelor of Music degree from Texas Christian University (magna cum laude) in Fort Worth, TX under the tutelage of Richard Murrow and was the tubist of the Christ Chapel Bible Church Orchestra, the German Band of North Texas, and the New Texas Symphony Orchestra. His most recent accomplishments include being a finalist in the GPRTEC mock military band audition (3rd place), tuba quartet competition (2nd place), mock orchestral audition, and a biography segment on ABC News with the Dallas Wind Symphony. Previous accomplishments include acceptances into Brevard Music Festival, Sewanee Music Festival, and Interlochen Arts Camp, in addition to being a recipient of the Stevie Ray Vaughan Scholarship Award and inducted into Pi Kappa Lambda. He has previously studied with Alex Cauthen of the DWS and served in Texas as a tuba instructor.
