Ben began his musical studies at age 7 with his father and began playing violin at age 9. He began studying privately at age 15 under Laura Prokopyk until starting his undergraduate schooling with Sonja Harasim in 2013. Before college, Ben was involved in the Strolling Strings, the Bismarck/Mandan Youth Symphony, the Bismarck/Mandan Symphony Orchestra, and the Missouri Valley Chamber Orchestra as well as the North Dakota All-State Orchestra. At college, he is active in the Concordia Orchestra where he is featured as concertmaster, and the Fargo/Moorhead Symphony. Additionally, Ben was a founding member of both the flute, violin, and piano trio Three’s Company and the Campanile String Quartet. He performs frequently with both in recital and outreach. Notable achievements for Ben include being a finalist in the North Dakota Young Artist Competition in 2012, participating in a side-by-side with the Concordia Orchestra and the Edward Said National Conservatory Orchestra in Palestine, attending the 2015 Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival, winning the 2016 North Dakota MTNA competition, and attending the 2016 Round Top Festival Institute. He will continue studies next year at the University of Colorado Boulder under Harumi Rhodes.
