Abby Easterling, originally from Dallas, Texas, is currently pursuing her Bachelor’s in Flute Performance at the Eastman School of Music, under the tutelage of Bonita Boyd. Formerly a student of Helen Blackburn, she has performed in masterclasses with Leone Buyse, Jim Walker, Elizabeth Mann, and Rick Sherman, among others. She started on piano at the age of 7 and began her flute studies at 11. Throughout high school, Abby was principal flute of many prestigious youth orchestras, including the Youth Orchestra of Greater Fort Worth, the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra, and the Texas All-State Symphony Orchestra, the top all-state ensemble of which she was a member for all four years of high school. She also participated in various acclaimed summer programs, including the Boston University Tanglewood Institute and the National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America. More recently, Abby has been awarded a fellowship at the Colorado College Summer Music Festival (2016) and has attended the Chautauqua Institute (2016) and the Pierre Monteux School (2015). At Eastman she performs with the Eastman Philharmonia and the Eastman Wind Ensemble and is an active member of her wind quintet.
