Amelia Merriman is currently in her third year at the University of Georgia working towards her BA in Oboe Performance under the tutelage of Dr. Reid Messich. She is the single recipient of the Hugh Hodgson Scholarship, the largest scholarship award given at UGA. She was recently announced the 2017 virtuoso winner of the Samuel Fordis Young Artist's Concerto Competition and performed Mozart's Oboe Concerto in C with the Georgia Philharmonic Orchestra. She was also a finalist in the 2016 UGA Wind Ensemble Concerto Competition. In the spring of 2016 she was chosen to be part of the Hugh Hodgson Touring Wind Ensemble, and she spent one week giving concerts and masterclass in several cities in Panama.

She has attended orchestral summer music institutes including the Brevard Music Center, the National Music Festival, and the Miami Summer Music Festival. Prior teachers include Dr. Lara Dahl, Barbara Cook, Dr. Eric Ohlsson, Emily Brebach, Jared Hauser, and Igor Leschishin. Notable masterclass performances include teachers Joe Robinson, Andreas Wittmann, Robert Atherholt, Dr. Nancy Ambrose King, Martin Schuring, and Toni Marie Marchioni. Amelia frequently substitutes with the Hendersonville Symphony Orchestra, the Augusta Symphony Orchestra and the Macon Symphony Orchestra, and she enjoys free-lancing in various pit orchestras, opera houses, and churches throughout the Southeast.
