Application Guidelines

You should be born before December 31, 1998.

Accepted participants are expected to remain at Round Top for the full six-week period (June 5 – July 17, 2016) without absences. Your schedule should be planned accordingly. No leave of absence will be granted.

Deadline is Monday February 29, 2016.

Preliminary Auditions:
Once you have filled out the application, you have access to your personal file. After paying the $80 fee (online or checks made to "The James Dick Foundation" and mailed to Alain G. Declert, P.O. Box 89, Round Top, TX 78954) you have access to the tab "Audition". You have the choice between "live" and "recorded" audition.

1) "Live" Auditions:
Once you made your choice of the audition site, we will receive automatically your request by email and we will contact you to set up your audition time. Your audition will be recorded by our representative and submitted "blind" to the relevant faculty with the mention "live."

Each instrument requires specific excerpts and solos (Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass, Flute, Piccolo, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon, Horn, Trumpet, Trombone, Bass Trombone, Tuba, Percussion, Harp, Piano.)
Collaborative artist is optional for solos.
Although excerpts for English horn, E-flat clarinet, and Bass Clarinet are not compulsory, they are highly recommended.

Two recommendations should be submitted by February 29, 2016 using the online recommendation request form found in your student account.

2) "Recorded" Auditions:
When you are ready to submit your audio recorded audition (mp3 format), upload it after recording all required excerpts AND the solo piece and combining them on one track before February 29, 2016. You can record separately the requested repertoire. Be sure to combine them onto one track before uploading. You can upload only one file. Go to your account and upload your recording. We do not accept video recordings.

Total time should not exceed 12 minutes!

Two recommendations should be submitted by February 29, 2016 using the online recommendation request form found in your student account.


Note: Due to the volume of applicants, we are not able to offer feedback on in person and recorded auditions.

Refunds are not given for auditions cancelled due to weather.

Placement Auditions:
On Monday June 6, 2016 starting at 10:00 am after the orientation meeting.
Specific excerpts will be posted early May 2016.
