Application Guidelines

You should be born before December 31, 1999.

Accepted participants are expected to remain at Round Top for the full six-week period (June 4 – July 16, 2017) without absences. Your schedule should be planned accordingly. No leave of absence will be granted.

Deadline is Monday February 13, 2017.

1. Preliminary Auditions:
Once you have filled out the application, you have access to your personal file. After paying the $80 fee (online or checks made to "The James Dick Foundation" and mailed to Alain G. Declert, P.O. Box 89, Round Top, TX 78954) you have access to the "Upload Video Audition" button.

All auditions must be video recorded (mp4 format without any verbal introduction) and uploaded on your created account. Video auditions must contain all of the audition repertoire performed in the order as listed. The audition must be played in one continuous and unedited segment, meaning that you should not pause the recording equipment between excerpts (excluding percussion). Any indication that the video has been edited or that the video equipment has been stopped during the audition, will result in disqualification. All pieces should be played without accompaniment. Read also Video Audition Upload Guidelines.

Each instrument requires specific excerpts (Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass, Flute, Piccolo, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon, Horn, Trumpet, Trombone, Bass Trombone, Tuba, Percussion, Harp, Piano.)

Although excerpts for English horn, E-flat clarinet, and Bass Clarinet are not compulsory, they are highly recommended.

Two recommendations should be completed by February 27, 2017 using the online recommendation request form found in your student account.

Note: Due to the volume of applicants, we are not able to offer feedback on recorded auditions.

2. Placement Auditions (live in front of the faculty members)
On Monday June 5, 2017 starting at 10:00 am after the orientation meeting.
Specific excerpts will be posted early May 2017.
