Praised by Anthony Tommasini of the New York Times for his “impressive bright-voiced tenor”, Scott Ramsay is highly regarded by Opera companies and Symphony Orchestras across North America and abroad for his dynamic performances in repertoire ranging from Bel Canto to the 21st Century. Following his portrayal of Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor, under the baton of Jesús López-Cobos at the Lyric Opera of Chicago, the Chicago Sun-Times proclaimed "He brought a passionate intensity to the role that matched the fire of Dessay's riveting Lucia." Of his Canadian debut in Verdi’s Requiem with Sir Andrew Davis and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, the Toronto Globe & Mail declared, "He proved a real find. His Ingemisco, Hostias and solo in the Lux Aeterna, had a sweetness and modest purity reminiscent of vintage Bjoerling and Simoneau.” Most recently, for his portrayal of Narraboth in the concert production of Salome with the Detroit Symphony, the Detroit Free Press remarked “Scott Ramsay was a more distinctive Narraboth, singing with both lyricism and enough edge to compete with the orchestral roar behind him.”

Engagements during the 2016/17 season include his role debut as Wilhelm Dantine in Philip Glass's The Perfect American at Chicago Opera Theatre and Long Beach Opera; and concert debuts with the Des Moines Symphony Orchestra in Beethoven's Symphony No.9 and the Rogue Valley Symphony in Beethoven's Choral Fantasy and Mozart's Requiem.

Recent successes include his return to the Detroit Symphony Orchestra as Narraboth in Strauss’ Salome under the baton of Leonard Slatkin; his Portland Opera debut in his signature role of Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor; Rodolfo in La Boheme for MusicArtes, Inc. in Manila, Philippines; his role debut as Riccardo in Un Ballo in Maschera with the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra; a New Years Gala Concert with the Kaohsiung Symphony Orchestra in Taiwan; Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor in a return engagement to Anchorage Opera; his return to the Berkshire Choral Festival as Soloist in Dvorak's Requiem; Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 with the Eugene Symphony Orchestra and University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point's Symphony and Choirs; a return to Virginia Opera to reprise his performance of Beadle Bamford in Sweeney Todd; his role debut as Don Jose in Bizet's Carmen with the Duluth Superior Symphony and Cleveland Suburban Symphony; his return to the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra for Beethoven's Missa Solemnis and his debut with Indianapolis Opera in concert with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra for Crescendo; as Soloist in Britten's Serenade for Tenor, Horn & Strings with the Chroma Chamber Orchestra; his debut with Leonard Slatkin and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra in the world premiere of David Del Tredici’s Dum Dee Tweedle.

During the 2012/13 season, Mr. Ramsay returned to the Lyric Opera of Chicago as Mitch in Previn's A Streetcar Named Desire - made his Virginia Opera debut in the same role and created the role of Henry Ward Beecher in Victoria Bond's Mrs. President, The Opera at NYC's Symphony Space and Anchorage Opera. The 2011/12 season included appearances as Lenski in Eugene Onegin and as soloist in Opera in the Park, both conducted by John DeMain at Madison Opera; his role debut as the Duke in Rigoletto at Sacramento Opera.

Other notable performances include Beadle Bamford in the acclaimed production of Ron Daniels of Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd under the baton of Stephen Lord at Opera Theatre of St. Louis; his return to the Lyric Opera of Chicago as the Painter/Sailor in Berg’s Lulu and the leading role of Mark in Tippett’s The Midsummer Marriage both conducted by Sir Andrew Davis; Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor at the Lyric Opera of Chicago, Dublin Int’l Opera Festival, Kentucky Opera & New Orleans Opera; the title role in Gounod's Faust at Eugene Opera; Roméo in Roméo et Juliette at Opera New Jersey and Syracuse Opera, Rodolfo in La Boheme with the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra and Duluth Festival Opera.

During his three-season engagement as a member of the Lyric Opera of Chicago's Ryan Opera Center, Mr. Ramsay made his debut as Rodrigo in Verdi’s Otello alongside tenors Ben Heppner, Yonas Kaufmann and American soprano Renée Fleming. During this time, he sang principal roles in La Boheme, Die Zauberflöte, Parsifal, La Traviata, Samson et Dalila, Regina, Lucia di Lammermoor and Madama Butterfly.

Since his professional debut with Florida Grand Opera, Mr. Ramsay has established himself as one of the outstanding American tenors, garnering the sort of critical praise often reserved for opera’s brightest hopefuls while frequenting the venues of North America, including several engagements with the Arizona Opera Company, Michigan Opera Theater, Opera Boston, Austin Lyric Opera, Dayton Opera, Chicago Opera Theatre, Greensboro Opera, Opera Naples and his addition to the roster of the San Francisco Opera.

Mr. Ramsay has won the top prizes from the American Opera Society and the Union League Civic & Arts Foundation. Additional training programs have included Florida Grand Opera, Glimmerglass Opera, Central City Opera and the Berkshire Choral Festival.
