Dear Friends of the Round Top Festival Institute,The 91 Young Artists of the 2012 Round Top Festival Institute have arrived yesterday Sunday June 3 along with our first guest conductor, Pascal Verrot, and 16 faculty members. Very busy day! On Monday at 7:30 pm, we will discover the sound of the 2012 Texas Festival Orchestra when the first orchestra rehearsal starts. If you are around, join us in the Festival Concert Hall. Master classes (free entrance) are held onWednesday June 6 and Thursday June 7 at the Edythe Bates Old chapel at 1:30 pm. Bassist James VanDemark and violinist Nicholas Kitchen will guide Young Artists through the arcane ways of making a sound becoming Music. Trombonist Brent Phillips and pianist Cameron Hoffman will perform at 7:30 pm.(free entrance)

And, we will open on Saturday June 9: Chamber music at 3:30 pm and The Texas Festival Orchestra conducted by Pascal Verrot at 7:30 pm. James Dick, our Founder and Artistic Director will perform Rachmaninoff’s Rhapsody on a Theme by Paganini (come and get the thrill!) The celebration of Claude Debussy’s sesquicentennial anniversary (1862-2012) will get a luminous start with performances of his Nocturnes and Images for orchestra (the latter quite rarely performed these days… we wonder why?)
