The Texas Festival Orchestra conducted by JoAnn Falletta performed the American Premiere of Frank Ticheli‘s Concerto for Clarinet and Orchestra commissioned by clarinetist Håkan Rosengren on Saturday July 10. Yesterday, the Giddings Chamber of Commerce offered a sumptuous BBQ at the restored depot in Giddings. The meat had been prepared by the City Meat Market competing in September at the cook-off set up by Texas Monthly. The writer has never before tasted such a treat! Delicious trimmings and  superb desserts had been prepared by volunteers. We did ask for the recipe of luscious brownies! Many thanks to the Giddings Chamber of Commerce.

Our last conductor of the season, Michael Guettler, arrived this morning and he will start the rehearsals of a program dedicated to Robert Schumann and Frederic Chopin (both of them born in 1810.)

If you have not yet come to the Round Top Music Festival, do not miss the last weekend (July 17) and reserve your tickets!

Texas Festival Orchestra – Edwin Outwater, conductor – Fred Child, narrator – July 4, 2010 – Festival Concert Hall at Round Top, Texas.

The festivities continue in celebrating the 40th Anniversary of the Round Top Festival Institute.  This Saturday, July 10th, a commemorative print will be unveiled at the 3:30 pm Orchestral Program of the Texas Festival Orchestra conducted by JoAnn Falletta. The original watercolor was produced by nationally recognized artist, Linda Tibolla. Ms. Tibolla will be present during the intermission and after the performance to meet and sign prints for the public. There will also be signed copies available in the gift shop throughout the rest of the Festival’s concerts. Please plan on attending this afternoon of music and art.
